Mr. Bingle Craft Paper Gift Bag
    Materials:
  • 14" X 10½" heavy craft paper or light posterboard (14" X 8½" if making cord-handled style)
  • Approximately 28" of "fat" yarn or cording (for cord-handled style only)
  • Hole punch (for cord-handled style only)
  • Glue
  • Transfer paper or carbon paper
  • Markers, paints, crayons or colored pencils
  • Ballpoint pent
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Printer
  • Scissors or craft knife

  1. Print out the Mr. Bingle Craft Bag Patterns.
  2. Following the measurements on the patterns, lightly pencil the dashed lines onto your piece of craft paper. If you wish, you may use your transfer paper to trace the handle section onto the craft paper. (Fig. A)
  3. Carefully cut along all outside shape lines. You may lightly score the dashed lines to help your folds stay straight and sharp.
  4. Place the transfer paper, transfer side down, on the face of the bag. Next, lay the Mr. Bingle pattern on top, design-side up. If you need to, you may use a couple of small pieces of tape to secure the pattern to the bag to keep it from moving around. (Fig. B)
  5. Using a ballpoint pen, carefully trace over all of the lines in the design. Remove the pattern and the transfer paper.
  6. Using markers, paints, crayons or colored pencils, color in the Mr. Bingle design. When using paints or markers, it is best to color all areas of the design first. Let it dry, then go over the outlines with a black marker at the end. This will keep the black outlines from bleeding into areas of lighter color and will give crisp, sharp outlines.
  7. Crease along all fold lines. Run a thin line of glue along the ½" flap on the design side of the bag. Tuck the flap to the inside of the bag and press it to the bag side to create a seam. (Fig. C)
  8. Fold side flaps in to form the bottom of the bag. You may want to use a small piece of tape to hold them in place while you glue the other flaps into place. (Fig. D)
  9. Run a small line of glue along the inside edge of the back bottom flap. Press the back bottom flap up onto the side flaps. Repeat this step with the side flaps and the front bottom flap. (Fig. D)
  10. For corded handles:
  11. Using the hole punch, make two holes on both the front and back faces of the bag. (Fig. A)
  12. Cut two pieces of cord, each measuring approximately 12"-14" in length. Insert ends through holes and ties ends in a knot. Knots may be inside or outside the bag. Repeat this step for the other side of the bag. (Fig. E)
