This is a fun project that is simple enough for even the youngest children to make.
Materials:
- Posterboard
- Transfer or carbon paper
- Red, white, green & tan felt
- 6" piece of 1/2" green satin ribbon
- 9" piece of baby ribbon or thin cording
- Ballpoint pen
- Black marker or paint pen (Tulip brand works great for this)
- One red and two blue pony beads (or pom poms)
- One 1/2" jingle bell
- Tacky glue or hot glue gun
- Printer
- Click here to print out the Mr. Bingle Felt Ornament patterns.
- Place the transfer paper, transfer side down, on the posterboard. Next, lay the Mr. Bingle pattern on top, design side up. If you need to, you may use a couple of small pieces of tape to secure the pattern to the posterboard to keep it from moving. (Fig. A)
- Using the ballpoint pen, carefully trace over all of the lines in the design. Remove the pattern and transfer paper.
- Using a pair of sharp scissors, carefully cut out the Mr. Bingle figure. Next, lay the figure on a piece of scrap paper to protect the table. Use your finger to spread an even coat of glue on the figure. Make sure to coat EDGES well!
- Place the posterboard, cut-out side down, onto a piece of white felt. (Fig. B) Carefully cut around the figure to trim off excess felt. If you want your ornament to be two-sided, repeat this step for the back. (Fig. C)
- Using the patterns provided, cut out Mr. Bingle's clothes and wings. Cut one hat our of tan felt, two mittens and one vest out of red felt, one face out of white felt, and two holly wings out of green felt. (Fig. D) Note: If you are creating a two-sided ornament, please put extras of all of the pieces except for the face.
- Using Fig. E for placement, glue on the vest and mittens. Next, glue on the face and hat. Using a marker or paint pen, draw Mr. Bingle's mouth. If you are creating a two-sided ornament, glue the extra vest, mittens and hat to Mr. Bingle's back. Next, position and glue his wings. Tie the 1/2" ribbon into a bow and trim off excess. Glue bow to Mr. Bingle's chin. Glue small jingle bell in center of bow. Next, add eyes and nose.
- Using a hole punch, make a small hole in the top of the hat. Feed baby ribbon through the hole and tie ends together in a knot.
