Mr. Bingle Gift Sack
    Materials:
  • 2 paper lunch bags or plain gift sack with handles
  • Approximately 28" of "fat" yarn or cording for the handle
  • Transfer or carbon paper
  • Ballpoint pen
  • Printer
  • Hole punch

  1. Print out the Mr. Bingle Lunch Sack Pattern.
  2. Place the transfer paper, transfer side down, on the face of one of the bags. Next, lay the Mr. Bingle pattern on top, design side up. If you need to, you may use a couple of small pieces of tape to secure the pattern to the bag to keep it from moving around. (Fig. A)
  3. Using a ballpoint pen, carefully trace over all of the lines in the pattern. Carefully remove the pattern and the transfer paper.
  4. Using markers, paints, crayons or colored pencils, color in the Mr. Bingle design. When using paints or markers, it is best to color all areas of the design first. Let it dry, then go over the outlines with a black marker at the end. This will keep the black outlines from bleeding into areas of lighter color and will give crisp, sharp outlines.
  5. Open up the decorated lunch bag and stand it up on end. Take the second lunch bag, insert it into the first one and open it out as well. This will create a "double" bag. (Fig. B) This step will give your gift bag more strength.
  6. Fold a cuff around the top of the bag. Make sure to fold down both layers together. (Fig. C)
  7. Using the hole punch, make two holes in the cuff area on both the front face and the back face of the bag. (Fig. D)
  8. Cut two pieces of cord, each measuring approximately 12"-14" in length. Insert the ends through the holes in cuff and tie ends in a knot. Knots may be inside the bag or outside the bag. Repeat this step for the other side of the bag. (Fig. E)

Other fun ideas for older children would include cutting the design out of fabric or paper or even using a combination of all three elements. You might also find different colored lunch bags to use for more variety.
