Since the birth of Mr. Bingle in the late 1940's, Christmas in New Orleans has never been the same. This New Orleans tradition represents a throw back to kinder, gentler times when people visited with family, drank eggnog and opened simple, non-computerized kids' toys...things like skates and dolls and catcher's mitts.
Mr. Bingle, Society Man?
You betcha! Mr. Bingle's a real moved and shaker! He's made appearances at children's hospitals, has his own TV show, appeared on local TV shows, marched in countless parades and hosted thousands of Mr. Bingle breakfasts. Mr. Bingle has made appearances at The White House and the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. Every year, there is a "Spirit of Mr. Bingle" Christmas tree. The proceeds are given to buy gifts for underprivileged children in Louisiana. Of course, being of celebrity status, there has been all sorts of Mr. Bingle merchandise. Thousands of dolls have been sold, along with cookbooks, ornaments and even Mr. Bingle clothing.
