Very early Mr. Bingle puppet show.
What Is Most Becoming To A Legend?
How about aging gracefully? Today, at 54 years of age, Mr. Bingle looks marvelous. He's a little plumper than he was back in '48, but he doesn't need Rogaine and his eyesight is as good as ever. Sure, he's changed up his attire some over the years, but what respectable 54 year old hasn't? Overall, he looks just about the same as he did when first introduced to the good citizens of New Orleans. In an ever changing world, it is reassuring to see that Mr. Bingle hasn't changed...and that he is still a legend in his own time.
TRADITION!!
Each year the people of New Orleans eagerly anticipated the Christmas season. This is when the two story tall Mr. Bingle was hoisted up the facade of the Maison Blanche store on Canal Street. Two different versions of Mr. Bingle have graced this facade. The first Mr. Bingle, erected in 1949, was standing upright against a gift box backdrop. The second Mr. Bingle, erected in 1991, was a "flying" version accompanied by a "book" that told Mr. Bingle's story. Whichever the version, number one or number two, getting Bingle to dangle has always been a major feat. It involves large trucks, a crane and lots of manpower.
