I had first gotten introduced to this line from a sample from maybe four or five years ago, tried it, loved it, and promptly forgotten it. But, having moved from CA to WI my showering habits quickly needed a re-vamp. The water here is hard, and my hair tangles like crazy. I couldn't afford to use to expensive salon brands because I am in grad school so money is tight. That being said, I was going through drugstore brands like water; the 5.89 'extreme treatment' conditioners and shampoo cleansers lasted a week in my hands. So Amino Acid Shampoo comes into my life. Yes, it is a cleanser (judging by the contents and label) so it works if you live in an area with hard water and your hair just feels like gunk. Yes, I do have to wash my hair everyday, but I have oily hair, and always will. Nothing is going to change that. (I am multi-racial, with thin, very long, wavy hair, but I have A LOT OF HAIR that tangles like mad). So it cleans well in extreme hard water, leaves my hair detangled, rinses easily (a blessing for those with long hair) smells great, is a bit pricey for someone who usually buys store brands, but works just as well as the more expensive top of the line salon brands. The bottom line is, if you are looking for a shampoo that works on a) tangles b) rinses easily c) oily hair d) thick or fine hair e) hard water build-up this stuff is for you. Sidenote: Both my husband and I use it, and he doesn't find the scent to be too 'girly'. He has thick, curly hair, and a flakey scalp and finds the shampoo to work just as well for him. That being said this shampoo isn't for everyone, we all have different hair-types, but if you have similar problems, this stuff is a lifesaver, even if you have to pay a bit more.

i tried this shampoo because my favorite got discontinued, but i didn't like this at all. it makes my hair stiff and dry. really miss the old Herbal Protein shampoo -- that was the best ever, and i know lots of other Kiehl's fans thought so too.

Best shampoo. I have been using it for years. Leaves no residue and makes your hair feel really clean. I have thinner hair and this also make sure it feel thicker. Highly recommend!

Leaves Hair Greasy - Formula Change?

Comments about Kiehl's Since 1851 Amino Acid Shampoo:

I would agree with another reviewer who said that the item is inconsistent. I belonged to a gym that provided this shampoo at their facilities. Now that I changed gyms I bought a huge bottle of this shampoo and it leaves my hair feeling unclean and almost greasy. I would not recommend despite the delightful smell! I will not be purchasing again.

One of the few Kiehl's products that I don't love. My hair felt liked it needed to be rewashed after using this. I see that it has great reviews but I like my generic store bought shampoo better, I'd suggest you ask for a sample before you buy.

I tried this shampoo and conditioner while visiting my sister and loved everything about it. My hair was shiny, silky, and smelled great...others even commented! So as soon as I returned home, I ordered giant bottles of the shampoo and conditioner from a well-known department store -- and, guess what? No scent at all! I tried using more and rinsing less. Nothing. I tried shaking the bottles. Nothing! My hair is sometimes shiny and sometimes frizzy -- no consistency. I am sincerely disappointed. Maybe you changed the formula in the past couple of weeks?

              Not for thick hair.

Comments about Kiehl's Since 1851 Amino Acid Shampoo:

The conditioner and shampoo smell AMAZING. But, for all my thick hair, long hair, course hair girls, it's not the best product. I tried out the smallest size, and used a generous amount and it still made my hair feel unclean. I wish it would work better on thicker hair just because it has good ingredients and smells amazing. Unfortunately, not for me. Could work for others though.

                Delicious Shampoo

As a single person with short hair, I can't seem to ever get through the liter size of this product haha! It's been almost a year now and I'm only half way through it - and that's with washing at least once a day, if not twice. Next time I'll get a smaller bottle and just refill it into the liter with the pump. Regardless, I like this shampoo and conditioner combo. It makes my hair very soft and I love the scent of coconut that comes with it. Beautiful product!

Horrible Travel Packaging for a Good Shampoo

                By

                from Undisclosed

Comments about Kiehl's Since 1851 Amino Acid Shampoo:

This review is of the 2.5 oz size since while I enjoy this product as an every day shampoo, the travel size product fails horribly. At first I thought it may be an anomaly that my Kiehls bottles frequently leaked on domestic business travel, but after recently returning from 8 weeks of international travel which included 10 separate days of flying, I can say with certainty the travel size Kiehls bottles are no good for checked baggage airline travel. With a shower kit housing more than a dozen shampoos, face washes, creams, etc. the only bottles that leaked any during my travels were my Kiehls Creme deCorpa lotion and my Kiehls travel size shampoo. I even tried pushing air out of the bottle before the trip to give it room to expand to no avail. The only thing that prevents getting the rest of your suitcase full of lotion and shampoo is to put the Kiehls bottles in plastic baggies. While that works if the baggie is big enough and sealed, you waste the product that escapes and have to spend time cleaning out the baggie to use it for the next flight. Not sure why Kiehls products leak when other high-end brands don't. Bottom line: the shampoo is great but don't waste your money on Kiehls expensive travel sized bottle; buy a cheap travel bottle and use that instead.

The lather is great and is telling me that my hair and scalp are getting the full cleaning treatment. The scent is very pleasant without being too strong -- just enough to remind you it's there. I rotate this shampoo with others, but I would use it daily.
