To give me more bowl options and to be able to microwave (after removing the rubber threaded bowl bottom), refrigerate, and freeze foods that I have used in my Artisan, I got a great deal on a KitchenAid 5-Qt. Tilt-Head Glass Bowl with Measurement Markings and Lid (K5GB), to store foods in the refrigerator. This glass bowl, unlike the metal bowl from India that comes with the unit, will never shed any metal bits. It also gives me double bowl space for different foods that are used in the same or different recipes. The bowl, however, is heavier than the 'stainless steel' bowl, and some buyers have had theirs crack and/ or break. I also use mine as a huge mixing bowl, so I'm constantly using it off of my mixer, too.

I had an issue with my bowl: it screwed on fine, but it wouldn't unscrew. After viewing an online video of another buyer's same problem, I learned that if I counterintuitively TIGHTENED the bowl FURTHER, the bottom rubber bowl threads popped out it out from the mixer bowl base!

(Note that some Artisans come with the glass bowl as part of their standard package. Pro 600s, however, don't come a glass bowl at all, but a glass bowl package can be purchased separately.)

Note: KitchenAid should create a glass bowl that doesn't shatter but is also lighter and can also accommodate a pouring shield.

I love love love the 5qt mixer i purchased but it came with the glass bowl which looks very nice and is handy for seeing your ingredients but the 3rd time it was used the very bottom where the bowl locks in cracked with tiny shards of glass getting in my finger.
I have wanted one of these mixers my whole life and after spurging on the purchase i am disappointed in the glass quality and wish mine had come with the metal bowl.
Now im stuck with a 300 counter decoration or spending 60-70 to buy a new bowl or using it without it being locked in place.

      Cracked Bottom

      By

Comments about KitchenAid 5-Quart Glass Bowl Tilt-Head Stand Mixer Attachment:

Used three times and loved it. Handwashed each time, bowl and stand ring separately, and thought somehow thought my luck would be different. Went to take it off the stand for use #4. It was a little harder to disengage, but not alarmingly so. Lifted it up and small shards of glass were all over the stand. Took the stand ring off- more shards of glass fell out from the ring thread. So frustrating.

Broke after using a few times

      By

Comments about KitchenAid 5-Quart Glass Bowl Tilt-Head Stand Mixer Attachment:

I got a kitchenaid mixer with the glass bowl for christmas. I kept it in the box for a long time because I did not want my roommates to use it and break it. After moving into my own place I was extremely excited to start using my mixer! It worked great for a couple of months. Then one day I was lifting the bowl out of my mixer and half of the bowl completely shattered as I was lifting it out!!! Shards of glass went everywhere and a large chunk fell on my foot and cut it open :( I have loved kitchenaid since I was a little girl using my mom's mixer. I am very disappointed in the quality of the glass bowl. I know now why my mom always opted for the metal bowl! Although it is pretty, I would NOT recommend the glass bowl to anyone!

Love it being glass, but it BROKE!

Comments about KitchenAid 5-Quart Glass Bowl Tilt-Head Stand Mixer Attachment:

I received this as a gift from my mother-in-law because you need a glass bowl to make the perfect mint meringue cookies (a family tradition). Was so excited to use, but after just a few uses, it got a huge crack in it and is no longer usable. Super bummed...

      Great bowl, poor quality

      By

      from West Virginia

Comments about KitchenAid 5-Quart Glass Bowl Tilt-Head Stand Mixer Attachment:

Got this bowl as a second since my 5 qt. tilt head mixer came with a metal bowl. Loved the bowl. Was making bread last week using the dough hook and the lowest speed. Heard a loud crack and when I tried to remove the bowl from the mixer it wouldnt budge. Finally got it loose by using the plastic handle of a spatula to turn the bottom. When I took the bottom piece off, the glass was cracked where the bottom screwed on. There were tiny pieces of slivered glass everywhere. The bowl is a great idea but the quality is so much lower than I expected from Kitchen Aid. Can't afford to keep paying that price for such poor quality.

Comments about KitchenAid 5-Quart Glass Bowl Tilt-Head Stand Mixer Attachment:

I just recieved this bowl for Mothers Day and on my second use it got a giant crack. I only had used it once before and made sure to hand wash it. Now I can no longer use it. I was really excited about this bowl and had high hopes but sadly it ended up being a giant waste of money!

      5qt glass bowl cracked

      By

      from Columbia, SC

Comments about KitchenAid 5-Quart Glass Bowl Tilt-Head Stand Mixer Attachment:

Bought this bowl for my wife as a gift. Barely used, maybe 3 times. When she went to use it yesterday she noticed a large crack down the side. No idea how this happened, she is a semi professional baker and extremely careful with her tools. Very disappointed, it is not even remotely safe to use now. Such a waste of money.

      what's up with the lid?

      By

Comments about KitchenAid 5-Quart Glass Bowl Tilt-Head Stand Mixer Attachment:

I really like the the glass bowl, and KitchenAid makes a superior product, but they dropped the ball on this one. Who needs a lid that doesn't fit the bowl? What is the purpose of this?

Why aren't these bowls tempered glass???

      By

      from Seattle WA

Comments about KitchenAid 5-Quart Glass Bowl Tilt-Head Stand Mixer Attachment:

Omg, I could not be more disappointed in this product! I have had my mixer for a while and loved the glass bowl. But today while making babka (a soft sweet bread dough) the bowl shattered!! And by shattered, I meant teensy, tiny shards of slivered glass ALL OVER MY KITCHEN!!! Why the heck aren't these bowls tempered?? I'm so disappointed by this! Not only did I have to throw away the dough in process, but all the ingredients on my counter, too! Obviously I will be buying a replacement bowl because I'm not tossing my whole KitchenAid, but I'll be looking for a steel bowl like my old mixer because I can't risk that again, especially with two dogs in the house (thankfully they were on a walk at the time)!
